Bob Fuller and
Randy Vanstory
set their hearts
and minds on
developing a
different
concept in
memory care.
They began their
research early
on by looking at
existing
facility options
in the market
place for
Alzheimer’s
care. The words
“cold” and
“depressing”
could describe
how they felt
about most
places they
went.
Immediately they
knew there had
to be a better
way.
As they
continued to
tour, they rated
places based on
one simple
question, “Would
I want my mother
here?” and the
answer was
consistently
“NO”! |
|
|
They knew in
their hearts
that families
and their loved
ones suffering
with dementia
needed a home
and a
thoughtfully
designed program
that focused on
their individual
social and
emotional needs
and their
remaining
strengths and
abilities.
If
you were to
search the
country for
organizations
that truly have
a heart for
those with
dementia, you
would find only
a handful. There
are so few
organizations
whose only
mission is to
care for seniors
with memory
loss. The
spectrum of care
available is
wide, from the
small group
home, to the
large assisted
living facility.
In small
settings,
residents
receive intimate
care, but often
lose
professional
management. In
large
facilities,
residents
benefit from
professional
management but
often lose the
intimate
environment and
flexible
program.
Knowing that the
intimate
environment AND
professional
management could
co-exist, Bob
and Randy
determined that
they could
provide a better
solution. This
solution would
serve both the
person with
dementia and the
family who must
place their
trust in someone
else for the
care of their
loved one. They
spent nearly two
years developing
the small
uniquely
designed
environment,
flexible
dementia
specific
programming and
professional
management plan.
They focused
attention on
three areas that
needed
improvement in
the Alzheimer's
care industry. |

Care and focus on the
residents’ needs as a person
|
 |
Care and communication with
the family

Training and support to
caregivers

Bob, Randy and each AutumnGrove team
member have played integral roles in
growing AutumnGrove to what is today-
the best Alzheimer’s and dementia care
in the market. Continuing to stand by
their mission “to honor our residents
and those who love and care for them”.

We looked around for a
couple of years for a place to care for
Dick. This place is heaven. It is the
only place we would choose to care for
him.

Having my mom at AutumnGrove Cottage
eases my mind and gives me a sense of
peace. I know she is well cared for and the proactive
communication is great.
|
 |
The extensive caregiver
training is obvious. The caregivers
speak to and interact with each resident
with respect, love and kindness.
|
 |
I love the
environment…the open kitchen concept is
great. The cottage always smells good
with the aroma of homemade food; the
meals are served in nice portions and
there is a great variety of food.
|
 |
My father always looks
well groomed. His needs are most
definitely met.
|
 |
What incredible people
you are! We will never forget your
kindness. Thanks so much to all of you!
|
 |
Mom would never get the
care she gets from you and your staff
anywhere else. AutumnGrove Cottage is a
very special place!!
|
 |
There is no card to tell
you that you made a real difference in
one family’s life. You were my strength
and my right hand through this past
year. David and I could not have done
this without each of you. I thank you
from the bottom of my heart and just
know that I will never, ever forget all
that each of you have done for our Dear
Jim and for us.
|
 |
As Rick Warren has
stated, “Love leaves a legacy. How you
treated other people, not your wealth or
accomplishments, is the most enduring
impact you can leave on earth.” Love was
displayed over and over to our family from all
of you at AutumnGrove. We are eternally
grateful for that love. Your kindness is
appreciated more than you know. |
